Support for the Teacher
For 2,600 years, teachers of the dharma have been supported through the practice of generosity (dana). This generosity provides for basic living expenses and enables teachers to be free from participating in traditional forms of secular employment. It allows them to dedicate their lives to study, practice, and offering the teachings of wisdom and compassion to others.
Since 2002, Peter Doobinin has been a full-time meditation teacher. Unlike many teachers whose primary income is from other forms of employment, Peter's income - other than a small amount from his writing - comes entirely from teaching meditation. Class fees (suggested donations) at Berlin Dharma reflect the amount deemed necessary to sufficiently cover expenses for putting on classes (renting the space, etc.) and to support the teacher in his efforts to meet his basic needs. All donations are applied to the teacher's basic living expenses such as food, clothing, shelter, medical needs, and fundamental requirements for an individual in contemporary society. If you would like to further support the teacher, please let us know by clicking the box below. Please know that whatever you're able to offer is greatly appreciated. Thank you for your generosity.
The article, "All Dana: The Missing Pieces" from Inquiring Mind magazine provides insights into the practice of generosity in support of dharma teachers in the west, including Peter Doobinin's own efforts to become a full-time, self-sufficient teacher.
